Why Do You Play Book of Hours So Much?

I’m keeping this relatively spoiler-free. There are 110 endings to Book of Hours. I want to record all of them.

Why do you play Book of Hours so much?

I’m a librarian. It’s my favorite game. ‘Literally me, fr fr,’ as the kids say (and a skibidi toilet to you, young miss!)

Why do you want to fully catalog Book of Hours?

I like the Secret Histories universe. I don’t like not knowing things. There’s a lot about the Secret Histories universe I don’t know. The best way I can organize information about Book of Hours: cataloguing it myself. In a meta way, I’ll be making a sort of book of hours about Book of Hours.

How are you cataloging Book of Hours?

Obsidian. I highly recommend using Obsidian for this type of project. It’s like private wiki software that runs on your own computer, but better. I also highly recommend using this add-on to add images that represent the various Principles in the game.

Why don’t you just use the Rowenarium?

I do!

  • Rowenarium doesn’t provide commentary on game elements. I want to log my commentary and my theories.

  • Using Obsidian, I can make links between things like books and characters mentioned in said books. Rowenarium also doesn’t cover things like recent DLC for Book of Hours (yet.)

  • I like cataloguing things myself

  • The Rowenarium is missing some stuff from the more recent updates to Book of Hours

Why do you want to complete all 110 endings?

There are flavor text differences between endings in a given category that, together, tell us more about the Origin picked at start, the ending category attended, and the general world of the Secret Histories universe.

How long will it take you to complete Book of Hours?

Probably 3-12 hours per run.

What are your plans for cataloguing Book of Hours?

  • Essentially copying Rowenarium to my Obsidian vault

  • Cataloguing every ending and comparing each ending across both character Origin and the flavor difference between each ending

Will you catalogue Cultist Simulator?

I would like to catalogue it after cataloguing Book of Hours.

Will you catalogue the other Secret Histories/Weather Factory/Fallen London/Alexis Kennedy intellectual properties?

I don’t have plans to do so at this time.

I don’t have a lot of interest in The Lady Afterwards because I’m not a TRPG person and I don’t think that me cataloguing it makes much sense given it’s a TRPG.

I don’t know if I’ll like Traveling at Night enough to want to catalogue it. It’s too soon to say.

Fallen London and the related games Sunless Sea and Sunless Skies are pretty straightforward, lore wise, especially compared to the Secret Histories universe. They’re also pretty well documented.

You can learn more about the extended Secret Histories universe via the Notable Sources list on the Secret Histories wiki.

I’m still confused and I want spoilers.

At the start of every Book of Hours game, you get to make 2 choices. Those 2 choices determine which of 9 ‘Origins’ your Librarian has — basically, what your Librarian did before becoming the Librarian.

There are 110 endings in Book of Hours.

  • 2 are generic

  • 9 are DLC related and have to do with being a big nerd, attainable by Librarians of any Origin

  • 39 are attainable by Librarians of any Origin

  • 60 are attainable only by Librarians of a specific Origin. Each Origin has 6 unique endings, with the exception of The Revolutionary and The Twice-Born, who have 9 unique endings each.
